Jewish New Year

Rosh Hashana

When? Rosh Hashanah 2026 begins before sundown on Friday, Sept. 11, and ends after nightfall on Sunday, Sept. 13.

 

What? We hear the Shofar, eat apple dipped in honey, wish each other a sweet new year, go to Tashlich and more.

Day of Atonement

Yom Kippur

When? Yom Kippur 2026 begins before sundown on Sunday, Sept. 20, and ends after nightfall on Monday, Sept. 21.

What? We abstain from food and drink, do not wash or anoint our bodies, do not wear leather footwear, and abstain from marital relations. Instead our time is spent in prayer to G‑d.

Holiday of Joy

Sukkot

When? Sukkot 2026 begins before sundown on Friday, Sept. 25. The first days of the holiday are observed through Sunday, Sept. 27. The intermediate days are Monday, Sept. 28, through Wednesday, Sept. 30.
 

What? Sukkot is the festival of huts. It is a week of joy, commemoration and unity. We eat in the Sukkah and shake the Lulav and Etrog.

Holiday of Joy

Shemini Atzeret / Simchat Torah 

When? Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are observed from before sundown on Thursday, Oct. 1, through after nightfall on Friday, Oct. 2.

What? 

After Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are celebrated—Shemini Atzeret includes Yizkor and eating in the sukkah without a blessing, while Simchat Torah marks completing and restarting the Torah with joyful dancing.

Festival of Lights

Chanukah

When? Starts at nightfall on December 14, 2025, and ends with nightfall on December 22, 2025.

What? We light the Menorah, eat latkes and jelly doughnuts, play with dreidels, and have lots of fun!

Purim

Purim

When? Begins sunset of Monday, March 2, 2026 and ends nightfall of  Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

What? We hear the Megillah, give Charity to the poor, give food baskets to friends, enjoy a delicious feast, dress up and increase in Joy!

Passover

Pesach

When? Begins before sundown on April 1, 2026, and ends after nightfall on April 9, 2026.

What? We eat matzah (unleaven bread) and maror (bitter herbs). For the duration of the 8 (or 7 days in Israel) of Passover, chametz (leaven) is strictly avoided.

Conclusion of the Omer

Shavuot

When? Begins at sundown on May 21, 2026, and concludes at nightfall on May 23, 2026.

What? We listen to the 10 Commandments being read, and eat lots of dairy!
